Four arrested in North Karachi murder case, wife among accused

KARACHI: District Central Police said they had traced a blind murder case within 48 hours and arrested four suspects, including two women, over the killing of a 33-year-old man in North Karachi.

According to SSP Muhammad Imran Khan, the victim, Rehan, son of Ghulam Nabi Memon, was shot dead outside a mosque in Khwaja Ajmer Nagri on April 10 at around 5am. A case was subsequently registered at the Khwaja Ajmer Nagri police station.

The police officer said investigators had initially treated the incident as either a robbery-related killing or a targeted attack. However, the inquiry later concluded that the murder had been planned in advance.

Police identified the accused as the victim’s wife Sadaf, her mother Fatima, her brother Jibran, and her friend Sheezan alias Saju. SSP Khan said all four were found to have been involved in the alleged conspiracy behind the killing.

Police account of planning

Investigators said the suspects worked out the murder plan during a meeting held at a property agency. Police further stated that Sheezan, described as the main accused, allegedly took a licensed 9mm pistol from his brother.

According to the police account, Jibran arranged bullets and a mask for the attack. The victim’s wife, Sadaf, is alleged to have shared details of her husband’s daily movements with the co-accused and informed them that he regularly went to a nearby mosque for Fajr prayers.

Police said these details were used in carrying out the attack outside the mosque in the early hours of April 10.

Case registered after killing

The case was registered after Rehan was gunned down in Khwaja Ajmer Nagri. District Central Police said the arrests were made within two days of the incident as part of the investigation into what they described as a pre-planned murder.

SSP Muhammad Imran Khan said the investigation had shifted direction after early assumptions about robbery or a targeted attack did not hold up during the probe. Police then focused on what they said was a conspiracy involving people known to the victim.

The suspects taken into custody include two women and two men, police said. The arrested individuals are Sadaf, Fatima, Jibran and Sheezan alias Saju.

Police have presented the case as a solved blind murder investigation, with officers linking the accused to the planning and execution of the killing through the roles they allegedly played before the shooting.
