DERA GHAZI KHAN: The Border Military Police (BMP) said it had thwarted an attempt to smuggle 112 kilogrammes of silver at the Khar check post in Dera Ghazi Khan, in what officials described as the biggest seizure of its kind so far.
BMP personnel stopped a vehicle at the check post and recovered 112kg of silver from it. The seized silver was estimated to be worth around Rs80 million.
Officials said one suspect was taken into custody during the operation, while the vehicle used in the alleged smuggling attempt was also taken into possession. The suspect had already managed to pass through the first BMP border post at Bewata, located on the Punjab-Balochistan border, before being intercepted at Khar.
BMP Commandant Ameer Taimoor said the action had dealt a major setback to smuggling networks operating in the area.
Largest seizure of its kind
The recovery was described as the largest silver seizure of its kind to date. The operation was carried out by the Border Military Police at the Khar check post, which serves as one of the monitoring points in the region.
The confiscation adds to anti-smuggling enforcement efforts in the border belt linking Punjab and Balochistan. The suspect had crossed the first BMP checkpoint at Bewata before the vehicle was stopped and the silver was recovered at Khar.
The seized silver, the impounded vehicle and the arrest were all confirmed in the reported account of the operation. Officials presented the action as a significant enforcement success because of both the quantity of silver recovered and its estimated market value.
The incident took place in Dera Ghazi Khan district, where border policing units monitor movement along routes connected to the Punjab-Balochistan boundary.
