Customs enforcement in Karachi seizes contraband worth Rs1.8bn in March

ISLAMABAD: The Collectorate of Customs Enforcement Karachi carried out 77 anti-smuggling operations during March and confiscated contraband goods valued at Rs1.8 billion, according to an official announcement issued by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Saturday.

The FBR said the scale of seizures recorded during the month was significantly higher than usual. According to the official announcement, the volume of confiscated goods was nearly four times the average monthly performance.

The seized items covered a broad range of goods. The official announcement said the operations led to the recovery of around 527 kilograms of silver bars, 240kg of narcotics, and 725 bottles of high-end liquor.

Customs authorities also seized cigarettes, betel nuts, vapes, perfumes, 800 mobile phones, and 40,000 litres of diesel during the March crackdown.

The operations were conducted by the Collectorate of Customs Enforcement Karachi as part of anti-smuggling action, the FBR statement said.

The total value of the confiscated contraband was put at Rs1.8bn in the official statement.
