Customs intercepts gold and high-end items worth Rs 58 million at Karachi airport

KARACHI: Pakistan Customs has seized gold jewellery and luxury goods valued at around Rs 58 million from a passenger arriving from the United States at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, officials confirmed on Friday.

The recovery was made at the international arrivals lounge, where officials found 1,185 grams of gold jewellery along with a commercial quantity of cosmetics, perfumes and handbags concealed in the passenger’s luggage.

According to the Federal Board of Revenue, the confiscated items have been taken into official custody and a first information report has been registered under the Customs Act, 1969.

In a statement, an FBR spokesperson said the department remains committed to curbing smuggling and ensuring strict enforcement of customs laws at all entry and exit points across the country.

Authorities added that surveillance and vigilance at airports and other border points have been intensified as part of ongoing efforts to prevent the illegal movement of goods and safeguard national revenue.
