Customs seize marijuana, ecstasy worth Rs. 114 million at Karachi airport

KARACHI: Pakistan Customs at Jinnah International Airport successfully intercepted two drug smuggling attempts, seizing illicit substances worth Rs. 114 million at the International Mail Office.

In the first operation, officers detected 1.69 kg of marijuana, valued at Rs. 52 million, concealed in a parcel from Thailand, which was falsely declared as containing ‘amulets.’ In the second case, 1,945 MDMA (Ecstasy) pills, worth Rs. 62 million, were found hidden in a package labeled as a ‘vacuum cleaner’ from Belgium.

The rise in global e-commerce has led to an increase in the volume of goods crossing borders, providing criminal networks with more opportunities to exploit international mail systems for drug trafficking.

Pakistan Customs remains vigilant in its efforts to combat drug smuggling and continue its successful interception of large drug shipments before they reach communities.
