Punjab Police ‘go people-first’: 35,500 trained as courteous policing drive rolls out
  • Behavioural training launched under CM’s vision to reshape police culture

  • One-day province-wide modules focus on courtesy, dignity, public respect

  • Officers directed to address citizens as “Sir”, “Madam” at all levels

LAHORE: In line with the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, a special behavioural training programme has been launched to promote positive attitudes, courtesy, and a public-friendly culture within Punjab Police.

On the directives of IG Punjab Abdul Kareem, a comprehensive province-wide training initiative is underway, under which one-day sessions are being conducted through a specially designed behavioural module.

A Punjab Police spokesperson said that the programme focuses on equipping officers and personnel with skills to interact with citizens in a courteous, polite, and dignified manner. Particular emphasis is being placed on respectfully addressing members of the public as “Sir” and “Madam.”

The spokesperson added that adopting a courteous and dignified attitude has been made mandatory at every stage of policing—including checkpoints, registration of FIRs, investigations, and other procedures—to foster trust, mutual respect, and stronger relations between the police and the public.

He further said that representatives of civil society are actively contributing to the training programme, supporting efforts to enhance both the professional capacity and ethical conduct of police personnel.

According to the spokesperson, 35,500 police officers and personnel across the province have so far undergone training under the behavioural module. The module has now been institutionalised as a permanent component of police training, with refresher courses to be conducted periodically for all officers.

The spokesperson expressed confidence that the new training approach would strengthen public trust in the police, noting that improved behaviour and professionalism would not only boost public confidence but also contribute to crime prevention.

Security remains on high alert across province

In a related development, IG Punjab Abdul Kareem issued directives to enhance security across the province, including Lahore, on the occasion of Friday prayers. He ordered that comprehensive security arrangements be ensured at mosques, Imambargahs, shrines, markets, and other sensitive locations.

The IG directed strict vigilance against miscreants, including Fitna al-Khawarij and Fitna Al-Hindustan, and ordered that security remain on high alert in all districts.

He further instructed that patrolling be intensified around mosques, Imambargahs, business centres, and highways, while monitoring of religious and sensitive sites be ensured through Safe City cameras. Search, sweep, and combing operations around key locations were also ordered to continue.

Abdul Kareem emphasised that all DPOs and senior police officers must remain present in the field and personally oversee security arrangements to ensure the protection of citizens’ lives and property.
