Suspected robber killed in police encounter on Bosan Road

Multan: A suspected robber was killed during an alleged police encounter on Bosan Road near Pul Kadal, officials said on Thursday.

According to officials, a police team spotted the suspect on Bosan Road and signalled him to stop. They said he allegedly responded by opening fire on the police party. In response, the police took cover behind their vehicle and returned fire.

Officials said that after the exchange of gunfire, the suspect was found dead. They stated that he was reportedly struck by bullets fired by his own accomplices during the encounter.

The body was shifted to Nishtar Hospital, officials added.

Suspect identified by police

Police identified the deceased as Amjad alias Amji. Officials said he had been involved in cases related to burglary, theft and street crime.

They further said that a search operation had been launched to apprehend the accomplices who managed to flee the scene.

According to officials, the deceased was wanted in multiple cases registered not only in Multan but also in Khanewal, Vehari and Muzaffargarh districts.

The incident took place near Pul Kadal on Bosan Road, where the police said the suspect was intercepted before the exchange of fire occurred. Officials maintained that the encounter began after the suspect allegedly fired at the police when asked to stop.

Police said efforts were continuing to trace and arrest the fleeing accomplices. No further details were provided by officials about the number of accomplices involved in the incident.

Authorities said the suspect had a criminal record spanning several districts, and the case was being pursued in connection with earlier registered offences. The body was moved to Nishtar Hospital after the encounter, while police continued their search in connection with the escape of the other suspects.
