Rawalpindi: Twenty students were caught using unfair means during matriculation examinations over two days in the Rawalpindi division, with their cases sent for legal and disciplinary action, according to examination authorities.
The violations were detected through online CCTV monitoring, officials said. The cases were immediately forwarded to the board’s discipline branch after the candidates were found cheating during the examinations.
Controller of Examinations Tanveer Asghar Awan visited a number of examination centres, including Government Gilani Model High School Wah Cantt and Government High School Wah Village, to review arrangements and oversight measures.
Awan said the entire examination process was being watched continuously through a command and control room. He said monitoring was underway to ensure transparency and to identify any violations during the ongoing matric exams.
Cases reported from several centres
According to the reported details, one cheating case each was detected at Quaid-i-Azam Academy for Educational Development Talagang, Government High School Khayaban-i-Sir Syed Rawalpindi, and Government High School Sakoot Kallar Syedan.
The largest number of cases was reported from Government Higher Secondary School Basali Rawalpindi, where 16 students were caught cheating. Officials said all 20 candidates were caught red-handed and their cases were promptly referred to the relevant disciplinary authorities.
The action was part of the board’s monitoring mechanism, which relied on online CCTV surveillance over the two-day period.
Invigilators and centre staff also face action
Disciplinary measures were also taken against examination staff at two centres. At Government Higher Secondary School Basali Rawalpindi, one invigilator was removed from duty following the cheating cases reported there.
Separately, at Government Girls High School Kahuta examination centre, the superintendent and deputy superintendent were suspended. Two invigilators at the Kahuta examination centre had been suspended.
Overall, staff at two examination centres faced disciplinary action in connection with the incidents reported during the matriculation examinations.
The latest action comes as authorities continue to monitor examination centres through the command and control system to curb cheating and enforce examination rules across the division.
