Eidul-Adha expected dates revealed

ISLAMABAD: The expected date for Eid al-Adha 2026 in Pakistan has been indicated, with the final decision subject to confirmation by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.

Reports suggest the festival is likely to be observed on Wednesday, May 27, with the Zil Hajj 1447 moon expected to be sighted on May 17 or 18.

Based on the current calendar, a five-day holiday period may be announced for both public and private sector employees if holidays run from Wednesday to Sunday.

Cattle markets have started operating in multiple cities, including Karachi’s Northern Bypass and Lahore’s Shahpur Kanjra, with animals arriving from traders and owners across the country.

Market observers indicate that prices of sacrificial animals may increase compared to last year due to higher feed costs and the economic impact of ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

Eid al-Adha is observed on the 10th of Zil Hajj and marks the tradition of sacrifice associated with Prophet Ibrahim (AS).

The central meeting for the moon sighting is expected to take place on May 15 or 16 to determine the official date of the festival.
