Eid ul Adha holidays likely to create five-day break in Pakistan

Pakistan is expected to get an extended Eid ul Adha break this year, with holidays likely to fall from Wednesday, May 27, to Friday, May 29, depending on the sighting of the Zil Hajj moon.

If the moon is sighted on May 17, Eid ul Adha will likely be celebrated on May 27. The three expected public holidays from Wednesday to Friday would combine with the weekend on May 30 and 31, giving citizens a five-day break.

If the lunar month completes 30 days, Eid could fall on May 28 instead. In that case, holidays are expected on Thursday and Friday, followed by the weekend, creating a four-day break.

The final announcement will be made after the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee confirms the sighting of the Zil Hajj moon.

Eid ul Adha holidays are expected to allow families more time for travel, sacrifice arrangements and other Eid-related activities across the country.
