Anti-terrorism court grants bail to 26 TLP workers in Lahore

LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court on Wednesday approved bail for 26 workers of the banned Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) who were facing charges related to violence and attacks on police personnel.

The court accepted the bail applications filed by the accused and ordered each petitioner to submit surety bonds worth Rs100,000 to secure their release.

Cases registered at Shahdara Police Station

The cases against the TLP workers were registered in 2025 at Shahdara Police Station in Lahore. The prosecution told the court that the accused were involved in violent acts against police and had carried out attacks during incidents of unrest. It was further stated by the prosecution that sticks and rods were recovered from the suspects at the time of their arrest.

Bail applications filed separately

A total of 26 TLP workers, including Muhammad Ejaz and Abid Ali, had individually approached the anti-terrorism court by filing separate bail applications seeking their release from custody. The court, after hearing arguments from both sides, decided to grant bail to all 26 petitioners.

The Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan is a banned political and religious organisation in Pakistan. The cases pertaining to the accused involved charges under anti-terrorism provisions owing to the nature of the alleged violence against law enforcement personnel.

The court's decision to grant bail to all 26 workers came after the petitioners fulfilled the legal requirements for bail and the court weighed the merits of their applications against the prosecution's arguments. Each of the accused has been directed to furnish the stipulated surety bonds of Rs100,000 before they can be formally released from detention.

The cases registered at Shahdara Police Station in 2025 involved multiple accused persons who were allegedly part of violent clashes with police, during which weapons including sticks and rods were reportedly used by the suspects.
