Balochistan government releases Rs857m for public sector universities

QUETTA: The Balochistan government has disbursed Rs857.53 million to public sector universities across the province for the payment of staff salaries and pensions for March 2026.

The allocation was confirmed through a notification issued by the provincial finance department, which outlined the distribution of funds among several universities in Balochistan.

University-wise breakdown of funds

According to the notification, the University of Balochistan received the largest share, with Rs289.32 million allocated to it. The Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS) was the second-largest recipient, receiving Rs187.92 million.

Sardar Bahadur Khan Women's University in Quetta was allocated Rs99.67 million, while Lasbela University of Agriculture, Water and Marine Sciences received Rs92.41 million. The Balochistan University of Engineering and Technology in Khuzdar was granted Rs60.71 million.

Smaller allocations were made to other institutions in the province. The University of Turbat received Rs45.58 million, followed by the University of Loralai at Rs27.41 million. Mir Chakar Khan Rind University in Sibi was allocated Rs14.61 million, while another university received Rs14.27 million.

Funding for higher education in the province

The release of funds is aimed at ensuring timely payment of salaries and pensions to the teaching and non-teaching staff of these public sector universities for the month of March 2026. The provincial government's finance department issued the formal notification detailing the institution-wise allocation of the total Rs857.53 million package.

The funds have been distributed across universities located in multiple cities and districts of Balochistan, including Quetta, Khuzdar, Turbat, Loralai, Sibi, and Lasbela, reflecting the spread of higher education institutions across the province.

The University of Balochistan, being the oldest and largest public university in the province, received the single largest allocation, accounting for approximately one-third of the total released funds. BUITEMS, another major institution based in Quetta, received the second-highest allocation at Rs187.92 million.
