Key roads closed in Karachi for Youm-e-Quds rally; alternate routes announced

KARACHI: Several major roads in Karachi will remain closed on Friday as part of security measures for Youm-e-Quds rallies, according to a statement issued by the Office of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Traffic.

The traffic police announced that a religious group is organising a Youm-e-Quds rally after Friday prayers, which will proceed from Numaish to Aman Tower. To facilitate the event and ensure public safety, authorities have implemented multiple road closures and advised commuters to use alternative routes.

According to the official traffic advisory, the road from Boat Basin towards Jinnah Bridge will be closed. Additionally, M.T. Khan Road from PIDC towards Jinnah Bridge will be inaccessible in both directions. Other key roads affected by the closures include Mai Kolachi Road, as well as areas around Boat Basin and Jinnah Bridge. The traffic police stated that “the closures were being implemented as part of security arrangements for the rally.”

To manage the flow of traffic during the rally, alternative routes have been provided. Travelers coming from Teen-Hatti towards Tower are advised to use Gurumandar, Soldier Bazar, Bahadur Yar Jung Road, Holy Family Hospital, or turn left at Banori Signal towards PP Chowrangi and Corridor-3. Commuters heading to Tower from Nazimabad have also been directed to use these alternative routes.

The traffic police have urged citizens to plan their journeys accordingly and follow the provided guidance to avoid inconvenience. The measures are aimed at ensuring both the safety of participants in the rally and the general public.

Youm-e-Quds rallies are held annually to express solidarity with the people of Palestine. The Karachi traffic police have stated that these arrangements are standard for such events to maintain order and security in the city.
