ISLAMABAD: Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik announced on Sunday that three petroleum shipments are expected to reach Pakistan by tomorrow. The update was shared during a high-level briefing convened to address concerns over rising global oil prices and the country’s fuel reserves amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
The meeting, which was attended by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, followed directives from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The prime minister had instructed the finance and petroleum ministries to collaborate with provincial governments to develop a strategy aimed at conserving petroleum products and ensuring a steady supply, in light of fears of fuel shortages triggered by the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict.
According to a statement issued by the Sindh Chief Minister’s House, the federal government delegation provided a comprehensive briefing to Chief Minister Shah regarding the recent surge in fuel prices and the current status of reserves.
Finance Minister Aurangzeb informed the meeting that the country’s monthly oil import bill could rise to $600 million due to the impact of the Middle East conflict on global energy markets. He added that the government is closely monitoring international energy trends to manage the situation effectively.
The discussions underscored the government’s commitment to maintaining uninterrupted fuel supplies and addressing the economic challenges posed by global developments. Authorities emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts between federal and provincial bodies to mitigate the effects of external shocks on Pakistan’s energy sector.
