Acclaimed poet and scholar Syed Salman Gilani passes away

LAHORE: Celebrated poet and scholar Syed Salman Gilani passed away on Saturday after battling a prolonged illness, family sources said. He was 75.

Gilani, born in 1951 in Lahore, was renowned for his distinctive style in ghazals, naat, and satirical poetry. His works explored themes of love, sorrow, social issues, and public satire, earning him wide popularity across generations.

He was the son of the late Syed Amin Gilani, a poet and freedom fighter committed to cultural and political causes in pre-Partition India.

Following his father’s footsteps, Gilani became a prominent voice in religious and public poetry, captivating audiences with both spiritual depth and literary flair.

He was a devoted disciple and close associate of Syed Ataullah Shah Bukhari, and drew inspiration from poets such as Ahsan Danish, blending literary elegance with spiritual insight throughout his career.
