SRINAGAR: Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC) and across the world will observe the fourth martyrdom anniversary of veteran Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Gilani tomorrow (September 1), with fresh pledges to continue his mission of freedom.
According to the Kashmir Media Service, Gilani passed away on September 1, 2021, while under house arrest at his residence in Srinagar, where he had been confined by Indian authorities for more than a decade. Widely regarded as the most uncompromising voice of resistance, his death in captivity continues to resonate deeply across occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has called on people to visit Hyderpora graveyard, where Gilani is buried, to offer fateha for him and other Kashmiri martyrs. The APHC also urged imams and khateebs to hold special prayers in mosques across the territory, paying tribute to the lifelong struggle and sacrifices of the late leader.
The Hurriyat body appealed to Kashmiris living abroad to raise their voices against Indian atrocities in occupied Jammu and Kashmir and draw international attention to the ongoing plight of the Kashmiri people. “The sacrifices of martyrs will not be allowed to go in vain. Their mission will be accomplished at all costs,” the APHC said.
In its statement, the APHC described Gilani’s unwavering dedication to the Kashmir cause as a source of inspiration for generations to come, adding that his spirit of resistance continues to fuel the freedom struggle. His lifelong call for Jammu and Kashmir’s accession to Pakistan, it said, remains a testament to his unshakable resolve.
“The profound imprint of his leadership is eternally etched in Kashmir’s history,” the APHC added, noting that the slogan “Hum Pakistani Hain, Pakistan Hamara Hai” endures as a powerful symbol of Gilani’s vision. Carrying forward his mission, it said, is the greatest tribute to his legacy.
Several Hurriyat organizations, including Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League, Peoples League, Jammu and Kashmir National Front, Young Men’s League, and Kashmir Tehreek-e-Khawateen, also issued statements hailing Gilani’s principled stand on the Kashmir dispute, which earned him unmatched respect and admiration among Kashmiris.
