Veteran journalist, activist Syed Ali Nawaz is no more

PESHAWAR: Former Bank of Khyber Senior Vice President, veteran journalist and human rights activist Syed Ali Nawaz Gilani breathed his last here on Friday. He was 61.

People from all walks of life attended the funeral prayers held at a local graveyard in Askari Phase 6, Peshawar. Mr Gilani was the Chief Editor of the daily Al-Jamiat Sarhad and also was General-Secretary of the China-Pakistan Friendship Association, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Mr Gilani was a staunch supporter of the China-Pakistan friendship and has been working for a long time to further cement and deepen the friendly Sino-Pakistan ties. Mr Gilani also founded the China Radio Listeners Club Peshawar. He was also a regular contributor of China-Pakistan friendship and wrote articles in leading newspapers on a regular basis.

Mr Gilani’s late father, Syed Mohammad Hassan Gilani was also a journalist and worked for Daily Dawn Peshawar. He also worked for the daily Nawa-i-Waqt.

Rasm-e-Qul for Syed Ali Nawaz Gilani would be held at his residence in Phase-6 of Askari Housing Society, Nasir Bagh Road, Peshawar today (Saturday) at 4pm.
