  • CM urges collective action to uphold social justice on world day

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s Stroke Management Programme has enabled the successful recovery of a 45-year-old man following a severe paralytic attack, officials said on Thursday.

Muhammad Imran, an employee of Pakistan Post, was rushed to Services Hospital Lahore after suffering a sudden stroke that left him unable to speak, with complete paralysis of the left side of his body, including his arm, hand and leg.

Doctors said the patient was brought to the emergency stroke management centre within four hours of the attack, allowing immediate initiation of treatment. He was administered Tenecteplase (TNK), a latest clot-busting injection used in acute stroke cases.

Officials said the injection — which costs between Rs350,000 and Rs400,000 — is being provided free of charge under special directives of the chief minister as part of the provincial government’s stroke management initiative.

According to doctors, within a few hours of receiving the injection, Imran began regaining movement in his limbs and was also able to speak again. Expressing gratitude, the patient thanked the chief minister and the medical team for ensuring timely treatment and free medication, saying the programme had given him a “second healthy life”.

Officials further said that more than 700 stroke patients across Punjab had recovered under the programme so far. They added that the government had approved the establishment of stroke management facilities in all district headquarters hospitals, with neurologists to be appointed at each centre.

CM calls for collective efforts to ensure social justice

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz called for collective efforts by all stakeholders to ensure social justice in society.

In her message on World Day of Social Justice, she said the Pakistan Muslim League-N firmly believed in the principles of social justice, adding that justice and equality remained among the party’s top priorities.

She said Islam strongly advocated social justice, equality and peaceful coexistence, and noted that the teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) offered a timeless message of fairness and compassion for humanity.

The chief minister observed that societies lacking social justice lag behind in progress, stressing that justice and equality form the foundation of any civilised society. Referring to the widening economic gap between rich and poor, she said initiatives such as the Minority Card and Himmat Card programmes reflected tangible progress towards achieving social justice.
