India set a competitive 176-run target for Pakistan in their ICC Men’s World Cup 2026 encounter at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday, sparking mixed reactions from fans who described the chase as challenging but achievable.
Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha provided an early breakthrough by dismissing Abhishek Sharma for a duck in the opening over, giving his side an ideal start.
However, Ishan Kishan counterattacked in style, shifting the momentum with an aggressive knock. The left-hander smashed 77 runs off just 40 deliveries to anchor India’s innings and keep the scoreboard moving.
Pakistan regained control in the ninth over when Saim Ayub removed Kishan, halting India’s progress. Saim further strengthened his side’s position with two quick wickets in the 15th over, tightening the grip on the contest.
Despite the late setbacks, Shivam Dube chipped in with a brisk 27-run cameo, helping India finish at 175/7 at the end of their 20 overs.
While many supporters expressed confidence in Pakistan’s ability to chase down the total, some criticised Shaheen Afridi for conceding 31 runs in just two overs. Others applauded Saim Ayub and Usman Tariq for striking at crucial moments and restricting India during key phases of the innings.
With 176 needed for victory, the stage is set for a tense run chase in this high-stakes clash.
