Computer science becomes top choice for XI students in Karachi

KARACHI: The admission process for the 2025-26 academic year in government intermediate colleges across Sindh has been completed, with a total of 169,923 students securing placements in various colleges, marking a 30% increase from the previous year.

The admissions were processed through the Sindh Electronic Centralized College Admission Programme (SECAP), and the new academic session for class XI is set to begin on August 5. Dr. Naveed Rab Siddiqui, Director General of Colleges Sindh, revealed that this year, Computer Science had the highest number of admissions, reflecting students' growing preference for technology-related fields over traditional subjects.

In Karachi, the highest number of admissions was recorded in Computer Science, with 31,692 students opting for the field, followed by Pre-Medical (22,846), Commerce (21,233), Pre-Engineering (11,386), Humanities (8,876), and Home Economics (160). Karachi alone saw 99,711 students admitted.

Admissions in other cities include 26,543 students in Hyderabad, where Pre-Medical was the most popular choice with 16,767 students, and 10,618 students in Mirpurkhas, 10,183 in Shaheed Benazirabad, 9,889 in Larkana, and 10,979 in Sukkur.
