KARACHI: The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) has announced that the annual intermediate examinations for 2026 will start on April 29 and continue until June 15.
According to the board, the examinations will cover students of Class XI and XII in multiple groups and categories. These include Pre-Engineering, Pre-Medical, Science General, Home Economics, Arts Regular, Arts Private, Special Candidates, and Diploma in Physical Education.
The board said the examination schedule also includes candidates appearing for improvement of grades or divisions, additional subjects, benefit cases, short subjects, TP (twelve papers), and special chance examinations.
More than 160,000 students are expected to take part in the examinations, which will be held in both morning and evening shifts across the city.
Examination centres and arrangements
BIEK has set up 175 examination centres in Karachi for the annual exams. Of these, 130 centres have been allocated for the morning shift, while 45 will operate in the evening shift.
The board has also identified 21 of the centres as highly sensitive.
BIEK Chairman Fakir Muhammad Lakho said special arrangements had been made in view of the expected heat during the examination period. "Due to expected heat during the examination period, arrangements have also been made for rescue services (1122) and emergency medical support," he said.
He added that first aid boxes and ambulances would be available near examination centres.
The announcement sets out the scale of this year’s intermediate examinations in Karachi, with students from a wide range of academic streams and special categories scheduled to appear over a period extending to mid-June.
The board’s plan includes logistical and emergency support measures alongside the examination schedule, particularly in light of weather conditions expected during the exam period.
Morning and evening shifts will be used to accommodate the large number of candidates, while the designated centres across the city will host students from the listed disciplines and categories during the annual examination cycle.
The board’s statement also makes clear that arrangements for emergency response and medical assistance have been put in place at or near examination venues as the exams begin.
