Internet slowdown expected across Pakistan on January 15

ISLAMABAD: Internet users across Pakistan may experience slow or disrupted connectivity on January 15 due to scheduled maintenance on one of the country’s submarine cables.
Internet service provider Nayatel informed its customers via email that an unavoidable maintenance activity is planned for January 15, 2026, starting around 2pm and potentially lasting up to eight hours. The company warned that the work could lead to internet slowness nationwide and apologised for the inconvenience.
Nayatel did not disclose the exact location of the submarine cable involved or whether the maintenance was linked to a specific fault.
If disruptions occur, this would mark the second major internet-related issue in Pakistan within two weeks. On January 1, 2026, users across the country faced widespread outages after a fault developed in one of Pakistan’s upstream internet providers, leaving services degraded for more than 48 hours.
The latest advisory has raised concerns among users and businesses that rely heavily on stable internet connectivity, particularly during working hours.
