- Lahore tops the list with 272 crashes affecting 321 people, with motorbikes involved in 72% of accidents
LAHORE: Punjab’s Emergency Services Department (ESD) reported a staggering 1,567 road traffic crashes (RTCs) across all 37 districts in the last 24 hours, claiming 26 lives and leaving 1,816 people injured. Of the injured, 827 sustained serious injuries and were shifted to hospitals, while 989 with minor injuries were treated on-site by Rescue Medical Teams, easing pressure on medical facilities.
According to ESD analysis, the incidents shows that motorbikes were involved in the majority of crashes—72 percent—highlighting the urgent need for strict enforcement of traffic laws and disciplined lane usage to curb rising road accidents.
The breakdown of victims included 1,002 drivers, 70 underage drivers, 236 pedestrians, and 604 passengers. Lahore topped the list with 272 RTCs affecting 321 people, followed by Multan with 91 crashes and 105 victims and Gujranwala with 84 crashes and 92 victims.
Gender and age statistics indicate that 1,492 males and 350 females were injured. Regarding age groups, 390 victims were under 18, 934 were between 18 and 40, and 518 were above 40 years.
Vehicle-wise, 1,499 motorbikes, 138 auto-rickshaws, 206 motorcars, 38 vans, 9 passenger buses, 36 trucks, and 163 other types of vehicles, including slow-moving carts, were involved in the reported crashes.
The ESD emphasized that these figures underscore the critical importance of road safety awareness, adherence to traffic regulations, and proactive measures by authorities to prevent further loss of life and injuries across Punjab.
