Garrison team takes early lead at Royal Palm Team Golf Championship

LAHORE: The opening day of the Royal Palm Team Golf Championship produced an exciting start, with the Garrison Golf Team taking a surprise early lead, finishing the day with a combined gross score of 233.

The Garrison team, comprising Jamshed Matloob, Zayd Omer, Ahmed Kiani, and Saim Tahir, displayed excellent teamwork and consistency on the course. Among them, young Ahmed Kiani impressed with a round of gross 75, while both Jamshed Matloob, son of a seasoned golf professional, and Zayd Omer carded identical scores of gross 79. The score of Saim Tahir did not count towards the team’s total, but his steady play contributed to the team’s confident overall performance.

Trailing closely behind in second place was the Rawalpindi Golf Team, with a total score of 234, just one stroke adrift of the leaders. The Rawalpindi team’s strong lineup included Rao Muhammad Hussain, Yasir Khokhar, Khalid Mehmood, and Ilyas Ahmed, all of whom put up a commendable fight to stay within striking distance. Following the top two teams were Royal Palm B, Royal Palm A, and Gymkhana, who remain in contention heading into the second day of the championship.

In the individual gross category, Muhammad Shoaib of Gymkhana led the field with a superb score of gross 72, displaying precision and composure throughout his round. Close on his heels was Hussain Hamid of Royal Palm, also carding a 72, while Abdul Islam Nazir followed closely with a 73, and Ahmed Kiani remained in the hunt with a 75. With such tight margins, an intense battle is expected among these contenders in the coming rounds.

Meanwhile, in the net category, Abdul Islam Nazir emerged as the top performer of the day, showcasing remarkable control and consistency in his game. His exceptional round earned widespread appreciation among players and officials, marking him as one to watch as the championship progresses.
