Pakistani YouTuber Junaid Akram, known as Ganjiswag, has become the latest target of fake news spread by Indian media, specifically the Times of India. The outlet published a fabricated story about Akram, claiming that he grew up in a Gulf country, faced racism in Canada, and worked at a fast-food chain where he had to explain his Pakistani identity.
The story was based on a clip Akram shared on social media, where he was reading an email from someone else. In the video, Akram humorously addressed the situation, stating, “Your boy became a Canadian national without even going to Canada!” He clarified that the email he read was from a person raised in the Gulf who had experienced such discrimination.
Akram expressed his disbelief at the Times of India’s disregard for accuracy and failure to make corrections despite his comments on their social media pages. He criticized the media’s obsession with generating viral content at the cost of truth and warned about the potential consequences of such misinformation.
The incident follows a similar situation involving former cricketer Wasim Akram, who also called out Indian media for spreading false stories about him. Akram reflected on how easily facts can be distorted in today’s digital age, raising concerns about the potential manipulation of history.
