KARACHI: Federal Minister for Health, Syed Mustafa Kamal, announced on Monday that the Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC) will soon undergo full digitalization to improve efficiency, transparency, and merit in its operations. This move is part of the government’s efforts to strengthen the nursing sector and restore the credibility of the profession.
During a meeting on PNC affairs, Kamal highlighted the critical shortage of nurses in Pakistan, stating that the country is currently facing a deficit of nearly 900,000 nurses. He also noted that globally, there is a shortfall of approximately 2.5 million qualified nurses.
The minister emphasized the importance of nursing as a key pillar of Pakistan’s healthcare system and outlined the government’s plans to modernize the sector. This includes implementing reforms, policy improvements, and introducing advanced digital systems to align the profession with international standards.
“We are committed to modernizing the nursing sector, ensuring merit-based practices, and introducing effective reforms so that Pakistan’s nurses can meet both domestic and international demands,” Kamal added.
The health minister concluded by reaffirming the government’s resolve to continue reforms with a focus on transparency, merit, and modernization to elevate the nursing profession and improve healthcare delivery in the country.
