Naqvi rejects BCCI’s request to hand over Asia Cup 2025 trophy

In a recent meeting of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) held in Dubai, ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi dismissed the repeated demands from BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla to hand over the Asia Cup 2025 trophy. Naqvi emphasized that the silverware should be personally collected by the Indian captain. The dispute arose after Shukla pushed for the trophy to be transferred, insisting it be moved to the International Cricket Council (ICC) headquarters.

The issue was raised during a routine ACC meeting, which Naqvi chaired. Although the topic was not on the meeting’s agenda, Shukla continued to press the matter. In response, Naqvi suggested that the Indian team’s captain should come to the ACC office in Dubai to collect the trophy in person. No final decision has been made regarding the trophy’s transfer.

Sources close to the matter revealed that BCCI officials, attending the meeting virtually, expressed dissatisfaction with Naqvi’s stance. The situation escalated when the Indian delegation abruptly left the meeting, cutting their digital feed.

This latest controversy follows a series of incidents involving the Indian team during the Asia Cup, including players refusing handshakes and declining to accept the trophy from Naqvi after defeating Pakistan in the final. The decision not to accept the Asia Cup trophy from Naqvi was reportedly directed by the BCCI, leaving the post-match ceremony without the Indian team lifting the silverware.

This conflict adds to the growing tensions between the two nations, fueled by the heated moments during the tournament, from the group-stage clash to the final.
