Typhoon Bualoi devastates Vietnam, kills 13, injures 46

Typhoon Bualoi struck Vietnam’s northern central coast on Monday, leaving at least 13 people dead and 46 injured. The powerful storm, which made landfall early on Monday, brought strong winds, heavy rain, and high waves up to 8 meters (26 ft) along the coast. The typhoon, now weakened to a depression, caused widespread damage, including the destruction of over 44,000 homes, flooding of nearly 6,000 hectares of land, and disrupting power supplies.

Vietnam’s government evacuated over 28,500 people in advance of the storm, and several airports in the central provinces were closed, leading to delays and cancellations of hundreds of flights. Among the casualties were fishermen whose boats were swept away, and a falling tree claimed another life in Thanh Hoa province.

Bualoi also left large swathes of farmland submerged and caused significant disruptions to local infrastructure. The Vietnamese government has sent troops and police to assist with relief efforts. With the ongoing heavy rainfall, authorities are warning of severe flooding and landslides in several regions.
