ISLAMABAD: A district and sessions court in Islamabad granted bail to Hassan Zahid on Monday after social media influencer Samiya Hijab dropped the cases against him.
At the start of the hearing, Hijab told the court that she and Zahid had reached an out-of-court settlement and that she no longer wished to pursue the matter. She added that she had no objection if the suspect was acquitted.
The court approved bail for Zahid against surety bonds of Rs20,000 in each case.
Earlier this month, Hijab had accused Zahid, with whom she had been in a relationship, of harassment and threats to force her into marriage. She alleged that he appeared outside her residence, snatched her phone, and attempted to force her into his car.
Hijab, who has nearly 850,000 followers on Instagram, had shared details of the incident in a video post, saying her mother was unwell and her brother was not home at the time.
Speculation about a settlement had already surfaced after Hijab skipped a hearing on September 13.
