Court sends Hassan Zahid to jail in Samiya Hijab abduction case

ISLAMABAD: A district and sessions court in Islamabad has sent Hassan Zahid to jail on judicial remand in the Samiya Hijab abduction case. The suspect was produced before Judicial Magistrate Yasir Mahmood, where the police requested a five-day physical remand for further investigation. However, the court denied the request and opted to send Zahid to jail on judicial remand.

This development follows the dismissal of Zahid’s bail plea earlier in the case. He is currently facing two charges registered at Shalimar Police Station.

Samiya Hijab, a social media influencer based in Islamabad, has accused Zahid — with whom she had previously been in a relationship — of harassment, including threats and demands for marriage. According to Samiya, Zahid appeared outside her residence, grabbed her phone, and tried to force her into his car.

In an Instagram video with nearly 850,000 followers, Samiya described the incident, stating, “My mother was ill, my brother wasn’t home. When I stepped outside, he snatched my mobile, sat in his car, and forced me in as well.”

Samiya also appealed for protection from Islamabad’s Inspector General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi and praised the police for their swift action in registering her complaint.
