LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Tuesday visited Jalalpur Pirwala in Multan to express solidarity with communities affected by recent floods.

At a flood relief camp set up at Government College Jalalpur Pirwala, she personally met victims, shared their grief, and assured them of swift redressal of their concerns.

The chief minister extended heartfelt sympathies to flood-affected women, embracing and consoling them, and expressed maternal care by serving food to children. In one touching moment, she personally fed spoonfuls of zarda (sweet rice) to a young child.

On her instructions, a special meal was arranged for the displaced families, with Maryam Nawaz herself finalizing the menu. She also distributed fruits among women and children, and sat with families to share a meal.

The visit was marked by emotional scenes. An elderly woman broke down in tears, prompting the chief minister to comfort her with a hug and kind words. In another moving exchange, an aged citizen said: “When you were in pain, we cried; now we are suffering and you stand by us. May you live long, you are like our own daughters.”

During the visit, financial aid cheques were handed over to families of those who lost their lives in the floods. Relief goods and food packages provided by the King Salman Aid and Relief Centre and the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) were also distributed among victims. Women in the camp expressed deep gratitude to PML-N President Nawaz Sharif and CM Maryam Nawaz for standing by them in difficult times.

Maryam Nawaz was also seen sitting with a veiled elderly woman to inquire about her well-being, further highlighting her empathetic approach.
