RAHIM YAR KHAN/LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Friday visited flood-affected areas near Liaquatpur, including the embankment at Bait Zahir Pir, where she personally received displaced families arriving by boats and barges at Manchin Bund.
The Chief Minister assisted women disembarking from boats and interacted with affected families on-site. She commended the efforts of Rescue 1122 and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and issued directives making the use of life jackets and life rings mandatory in all ongoing and future rescue operations.
During a briefing on the ground, CM Maryam was informed that the floods have impacted 35 villages, including Noorwala, Gul Muhammad Langah, Dera Fareedi, and Chohan. The disaster has so far affected a population of 84,721 people and inundated an area of 43 square kilometers.
To support the flood victims, the provincial government has established six relief camps, along with three boat-based medical clinics and 12 mobile clinics, providing essential healthcare services to displaced individuals.
A total of 12,604 people have been safely evacuated from flood-hit localities surrounding Bait Zahir Pir, while 488 livestock have also been relocated to safer areas. In the severely affected region of Gul Muhammad Langah, 52 boats operated by rescue and police teams are actively involved in ongoing rescue efforts.
Punjab Police Intensify Rescue and Relief Operations Across Flood Zones
Acting on the directives of Punjab Inspector General of Police Dr. Usman Anwar, the Punjab Police continues its large-scale Rescue and Relief Operation across flood-affected areas without interruption.
To date, police teams have successfully relocated 615,278 citizens to safer locations. Simultaneously, 616,376 livestock have also been shifted away from vulnerable areas.
According to a police spokesperson, the rescued individuals include 257,441 men, 193,832 women, and over 164,000 children. The operation is being supported by more than 16,000 officers and personnel, 770 vehicles, and 40 boats, working round the clock.
Utilizing Safe City’s thermal imaging and drone surveillance technologies, the authorities are conducting real-time monitoring and providing situational guidance to field units.
Region-wise evacuation figures include 229,548 citizens evacuated in Multan Region, 71,454 citizens evacuated in Faisalabad Region, 83,510 citizens in DG Khan Region, and 63,688 citizens in Sahiwal Region.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar reiterated that the police force is mobilizing all available resources for the protection of lives and property, emphasizing that this operation is being carried out in the true spirit of public service and humanitarian duty.
