Untrained recruits deployed for Muharram security

KARACHI: Newly recruited youth in the police force have been assigned security duties for Muharram in Jamshoro without receiving formal training. Reports indicate that these recruits have not been provided the mandatory meals during their 12-hour shifts, forcing them to buy food and water from their own pockets or rely on charity meals from Muharram majalis.

In a viral video, the recruits expressed their frustration, stating, “We have been deployed for Muharram procession security, but we haven’t received any training. Despite being on duty, we have not been given meals or allowances. We are facing extreme hardship.” When approached, the SHO of Jamshoro reportedly stated, “If I get anything, I will give you something.”

The untrained officers, many sent from districts like Naushahro Feroze, were deployed due to a shortage of police personnel in Jamshoro and surrounding areas. The recruits have appealed to senior authorities, including the IG Sindh and DIG Hyderabad, to address their situation.
