Punjab Police renews pledge on 16th anniversary of Rescue 15 suicide attack

LAHORE: The Punjab Police on Tuesday paid glowing tributes to the martyrs of the suicide attack on the Rescue 15 building on its 16th anniversary and renewed the commitment to rendering every sacrifice for the protection of life, honor, and property of the common man.

On May 27, 2009, six terrorists armed with hand grenades and firearms attacked the Rescue 15 building. The security officials displayed exceptional bravery, engaging the terrorists in a firefight and forcing them to retreat. In a cowardly final act, one of the terrorists detonated an explosive-laden vehicle, claiming the lives of the brave policemen.

A police guard visited the graves of Inspector Abdul Rauf Sultan and Constables Shakeel Ahmad, Umair Nazir, Nisar Mansha, Hafiz Muhammad Nadeem and Muhammad Akram. The smartly turned-out contingent of Lahore Police presented a ceremonial salute, laid floral wreaths, and offered Fateha at the graves of the fallen heroes.

The commemorative event honored the ultimate sacrifice rendered by the policemen in line of duty.

In his message, Punjab Inspector General of Police Dr Usman Anwar paid tribute to the police martyrs on the 16th anniversary of the suicide attack on the Lahore Rescue 15 building, saying the “entire nation salutes the great sons who laid down their lives in the line of duty.”

Recalling the incident, the Punjab Police spokesperson said that on this very day in 2009, 14 officers and personnel of Punjab Police embraced martyrdom while on duty in a suicide attack on the Lahore Rescue 15 building.

“Those martyred included 01 Inspector, 02 ASIs, 01 Head Constable, and 10 Constables, including Inspector Abdul Rauf Sultan, ASIs Muhammad Nawaz, Ghulam Mustafa, Head Constable Muhammad Younas, and Constables Mubashir Haroon, Shakeel Ahmad, Umair Nazir, Nisar Mansha, Muhammad Nadeem, Mumtaz Hussain, Muhammad Akram, Imdad Ali, Muhammad Tahir, and Intizar Hussain Bhatti attained the rank of martyrdom,” he highlighted.

In a message, Capital City Police Officer Bilal Siddique Kamyana stated that Lahore Police’s history was filled with unmatched sacrifices. “As many as 342 officers and jawans of Lahore Police have laid down their lives while fulfilling their responsibilities,” he pointed out, terming “the sacrifices of the martyrs a beacon of guidance for the force.”

“The police will continue carrying forward the mission of public protection and maintaining peace, come what may.”

The CCPO reaffirmed the commitment of Lahore Police to continue making every sacrifice necessary in line of duty, underscoring the police’s role in crime control, counter-terrorism, and the maintenance of peace and order at the grassroots.

The Lahore Police was working proactively for the welfare of the heirs of martyrs, with initiatives including the provision of houses, support for daughters’ marriages, quality education, and healthcare. “Our offices were always open to the families of our martyrs,” said Kamyana, assuring that the police department will continue to stand by them at every step of life.
