Punjab Police on the 7th anniversary of the 2019 Data Darbar suicide attack paid tribute to five martyred officers and vowed continued welfare support for their families, including thalassemia-affected children.

 LAHORE: Punjab Police on Friday paid rich tribute to five police officials who embraced martyrdom in the Lahore Data Darbar suicide attack on its seventh anniversary, with Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abdul Kareem saying that “the entire nation salutes the great sons of the soil who laid down their lives in the line of duty along with their families.”

According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, on this day in 2019, five personnel of the Punjab Police embraced martyrdom in a suicide attack while performing security duty at Data Darbar Lahore. The martyred personnel included three head constables and two constables.

The spokesperson said the martyrs included Head Constables Gulzar Ali, Shahid Nazir, Muhammad Sohail, and Constables Muhammad Saleem and Saddam Hussain, who attained the exalted status of martyrdom in the line of duty.

Paying homage, the IGP said Punjab Police would always remember the supreme sacrifices of its martyrs and continue to take all necessary measures for the welfare and well-being of their families. He added that the sacrifices of martyrs serve as a beacon of guidance for the entire police force.

He further reiterated that the institution remains committed to upholding the legacy of its martyrs and ensuring continued support for their families.

 

Punjab Police reaffirms welfare commitment for children of personnel

In a related development, IG Punjab Abdul Kareem, on the occasion of World Thalassemia Awareness Day, said that Punjab Police is fully committed to ensuring the best possible treatment and welfare of children of police employees suffering from thalassemia.

He said that arrangements for blood donations for affected children are being ensured, while blood donation camps are regularly organized in Lahore and across all districts in collaboration with organizations working for thalassemia awareness and treatment.

The IG said that under the “Hamaray Phool Project,” monthly financial assistance is being provided for the medical care of children of police employees affected by thalassemia.

He added that monthly payments of Rs30,000 each are being disbursed to 172 registered children across the province, while more than Rs15.4 million have already been provided to thalassemia-affected children during the current year.

He further said that Punjab Police, in collaboration with hospitals and welfare organizations, continues to strengthen treatment and support mechanisms for affected children, reaffirming that the force will continue to play a full and active role in their welfare and care.
