LAHORE: In response to the ongoing emergency situation following Indian missile attacks, all health facilities across Punjab have been put on high alert. The Punjab health department has declared a state of emergency, canceling all leave for doctors and paramedical staff to ensure round-the-clock healthcare services are available in case of any further escalation.
A contingency plan has been developed to provide prompt and efficient medical care. The health department has issued clear instructions to heads of medical colleges, medical superintendents of teaching hospitals, district and tehsil hospitals, as well as the directors of special health institutions, to ensure effective preparedness. These measures include standby arrangements for medical, surgical, and specialized care to address any emerging crises.
Senior administrators and medical staff have been instructed to remain available, and emergency duty rosters, crisis management plans, and medical supplies such as life-saving drugs, vaccines, and medical disposables have been prioritized. All hospitals are required to ensure their biomedical equipment, patient lifts, standby generators, and operation theatres are fully operational.
In an emergent meeting of the Academic Council of Ameer Uddin Medical College/PGMI, chaired by Prof. Al-Fareed Zafar, it was decided that all departments at Lahore General Hospital (LGH) would be placed on high alert. Prof. Zafar appointed Prof. Armghan Israr Mirza as Director of Disaster Management, tasked with ensuring full coordination across departments to handle any unforeseen circumstances.
Prof. Zafar emphasized the need for constant liaison with the Blood Donation Society of Ameer Uddin Medical College to ensure timely blood supply for injured patients. The principal of LGH also highlighted the importance of maintaining the availability of life-saving drugs, ensuring sufficient blood stocks, and keeping healthcare professionals alert and on standby. He reiterated that no employee should leave their station without prior permission from the competent authority.
The principal of Ameer Uddin Medical College further emphasized the necessity of ensuring bed availability in all wards, keeping all operation theatres and medical equipment in optimal condition, maintaining standby ambulances, and ensuring the full readiness of generators. Security personnel have also been instructed to remain vigilant and adhere to all standard operating procedures (SOPs).
In his address, Prof. Zafar assured the nation that the country is in safe hands and called for national unity. He praised the resilience of the people standing shoulder to shoulder with the armed forces in the face of any aggression.
