The Punjab government has directed all hospitals in Rawalpindi to remain on high alert, instructing medical superintendents to ensure the availability of medicines and the continuous presence of staff. The move aims to prepare health facilities in the garrison city to effectively respond to any emergency or unexpected situation, according to official directives.
Round-the-Clock Emergency Preparedness
Sources indicate that the administrations of Holy Family Hospital, Benazir Bhutto Hospital, and Rawalpindi Teaching Hospital have been specifically tasked with implementing these measures. All emergency departments are required to remain fully operational 24 hours a day. Additionally, operation theatres and radiology departments must also function around the clock to handle any trauma or surgical emergencies that may arise.
Hospital administrations have been instructed to prepare and strictly enforce shift-wise duty rosters for all staff. This includes ensuring the availability of specialist doctors such as physicians, surgeons, and orthopaedic surgeons, as well as nurses, paramedics, and allied staff at all times.
Ensuring Medical Readiness
According to the directives, hospitals are to make comprehensive arrangements for medicines and supplies to guarantee prompt medical response. The instructions emphasize the importance of maintaining readiness across all departments, particularly those dealing with emergencies and surgical cases.
Officials have underscored the need for strict implementation of these measures to ensure that all health facilities in Rawalpindi are equipped to manage any untoward situation efficiently. The alert status is to be maintained until further notice, as per the Punjab health department's instructions.
"All arrangements for trauma and surgical emergencies shall be ensured. Availability of specialist doctors, especially physician, surgeon, orthopaedic surgeon as well as nurses, paramedics and allied staff shall be ensured," the directive stated.
The heightened alert comes as part of the provincial government's ongoing efforts to strengthen the healthcare system's capacity to respond to emergencies in the region.
