Shahid Khaqan urges Nawaz to leave himself ‘at mercy of court’

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi asked former premier against Nawaz Sharif to leave himself on the mercy of the court as a convicted absconder cannot get bail from the court.

During a TV interveiw, Abbasi made these remarks in an interview while commenting over the possibility of protective bail to Nawaz Sharif. He said that the PML-N was misleading Nawaz Sharif, adding that he is not convinced of carrying a convoy of buses to welcome Sharif.

He said that he has spoken to some legal experts who say that if a person is declared a fugitive by the High Court, he cannot get bail and will have to surrender in front of the court. The only legal way, he said, is for Sharif to return to Pakistan and leave himself at the mercy of the court. If he does not get relief from the court, he can file an appeal in the Supreme Court.

The former prime minister said that if Nawaz Sharif does not follow the law, then who will follow the law in the country? He further said that all the country’s political parties have seen power and that they should not have formed the government after the lack of confidence. He said that he could not join the PML-N and participate in the election under these conditions.

Abbasi also said that his leader is Nawaz Sharif, not Shehbaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz. He said there is a place for a political party, but that is a later matter. He said that the country’s history has been distorted and that there is a need to step back from the power struggle and greed for seats. He said that the people of the constituency would decide whether to go to the reception.
