Unconventional approaches

The failure of Pakistan to effectively combat terrorism can be attributed, in part, to flawed policies that have hindered progress in this critical battle. One major issue has been the inconsistency and lack of political will to implement comprehensive and sustained counterterrorism measures. At times, short-term political gains have overshadowed long-term security concerns, leading to policy vacillation and insufficient commitment to root out terrorism.

Another aspect contributing to the failure is the insufficient focus on addressing the underlying socio-economic factors that fuel extremism. Inadequate investment in education, poverty alleviation, and job creation in marginalised regions has left communities vulnerable to extremist recruitment and radicalisation. For the fight against terrorism to be successful, Pakistan must undertake comprehensive policy reforms that prioritise national security over short-term political gains. Transparency and accountability must be upheld.

Additionally, addressing root causes and socio-economic disparities must be prioritised to build resilience against radical ideologies. Pakistan must realise that the fight against terrorism requires a unified and steadfast approach free from any internal inconsistencies or ambiguous positions. Only then can the nation effectively tackle terrorism and forge a path towards a more stable and secure future for its citizens.
