Paperless system gets thumbs up to save public money in Punjab

LAHORE: The Punjab cabinet has approved the implementation of a paperless system across the province to save billions of rupees of taxpayers’ money.

The cabinet meeting was held with Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi in the chair here the other day.

The meeting was attended by provincial ministers, advisors, Punjab chief secretary, Punjab inspector general police, and other officials. In the meeting, the Punjab cabinet approved the closure of the file system in departments and the implementation of the paperless system, effective until May 15.

Caretaker CM Naqvi also directed the digitisation of ACRs. The cabinet congratulated the chairman Planning and Development Board, secretary implementation, and chairman Punjab Information Technology Board for introducing the paperless system in departments.

Additionally, the cabinet has decided to provide laptops to meritorious students in Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir, using those available to the Punjab government.

The cabinet also approved financial assistance amounting to Rs1.5 million per person for the families of the youth of Ichra Lahore who died when their jeep fell into Neelum River.

The Punjab Police (ministerial posts) Rules 2017 were also approved for amendment.

Conditional approval was given to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the Department of Special Education and Non-Government Organisation (NGO) “Tare Zameen Par” Trust. The Cabinet Standing Committee on Legal Affairs would review the MoU and take the final decision.

In the meeting, the decisions of the 11th, 12th, 13th, and 14th meeting of the provincial cabinet were ratified. The decisions of the second and third meetings of the Cabinet Standing Committee for Finance and Development were also ratified.

Finally, the decisions of the first and second meetings of the Cabinet Standing Committee on Legal Affairs and Privatisation were ratified, as were the decisions of the second, third, and fourth meetings of the Cabinet Standing Committee on Law and Order.
