Electricity prices may increase as CPPA submits request to NEPRA

ISLAMABAD: The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted a request to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) to increase the price of electricity by Rs1.17 paise for DISCOs consumers under the monthly fuel price adjustment for March 2023.

As per details, NEPRA is set to hear the request on May 3. This comes as K-Electric has already submitted a similar request for fuel price adjustment. If approved, the increase in electricity prices could affect consumers across the country.

According to NEPRA, an increase of Rs 1.1738 kilowat hour (kWh) over the reference fuel charges i-e Rs 8.7122/kWh has been requested by the CPPA. During March, total 8,741.32 Giga Watt Hour (GWh) while net delivered to power distribution companies (DISCOs) were 8,459.24 GWh during the said month of March 2023.
