Thousands rally for peace in Swat

SWAT: Thousands of residents from across Swat district on Friday staged a protest against the recent bomb blast and imminent threats to peace and tranquility, which was achieved as result of numerous sacrifices.

According to details, a large number of civil society members and leaders, workers of various political parties and people from all walks of gathered at Kabal Chowk after Friday prayers. The protestors were carrying white flags and placards inscribed with slogan such as: “We want peace in Swat” “We will not allow anyone to cause unrest in the valley.”

Addressing the gathering , Khurshid Kakaji of Pakhtunkhwa MAP, Rahmat Ali Khan of ANP, Mufti Abdur Rahim of JUI, Sardar Yusufzai of Kabal Bar association, Usman Ghani of Muslim League-N and other speakers raised questions about the silence of the provincial government over the rising terror threat in the valley.

They demanded effective measures to be taken and made it clear that if the government fails, then the people of Swat will be forced to stage a sit-in for an indefinite period.

They said that even in this modern era, the people of Swat are coming out on the streets and demanding peace from the state.

The speakers said that they will not tolerate any kind of unrest in Swat, adding that government negligence will not be tolerated in this regard.

They demanded that provision of a peaceful environment was their basic right and it was responsibility of the state to take immediate practical steps to establish lasting peace.

A woman killed by Mobile Snatchers

The motorcyclists who snatched a cellphone and escaped, opened fire on the chaser, in which a woman passerby was killed in Mingora City last night, the police said.

According to the SHO Tariq Ali, last night the motorcycle riders were fleeing after snatching cellphone from a youth Zeeshan. The victim Zeeshan and others run after the fleeing robbers who opened fire. As a result of which a passerby woman Mrs Ayesha, wife of Fazal Karim, who was returning home from a relative’s death, got seriously injured and later died in Saidu Sharif Hospital.

The police shifted the body to the hospital for post-mortem and started searching for the accused. The officials have claimed that the accused has been traced and soon they will be behind bars.
