People should respect mountains, nature: Prof Pinelli

SWAT: Renowned International and national mountaineers emphasized on people to respect mountains by keeping them clean and pristine and not to observe any aggressive activity to dent the pristinely of the mountains and nature.

They were speaking at a ceremony held to celebrate the recent summit of Mankiyal Peak of Hindu Kush Mountain Range in Swat. Renowned mountaineer Carlo Alberto Pinelli was the chief guest on the occasion. Different Pakistani trekkers and rock climbers participated in the event.

Carlo Alberto PINELLI is a high altitude mountaineer and mountaineering instructor who was conferred upon Sitara-e-Imtiaz, “Star of Excellence” by the government of Pakistan in 2017 for his services to the mountains of Pakistan including leading the famous ecological expedition FREE K2 freeing the second highest peak on the planet of tons of garbage and fixed ropes abandoned by previous expeditions.

Presently Professor Pinelli has been leading a project known as The Swat Project aiming to survey and document the possible trekking and mountaineering itineraries of the fascinating mountains of Swat and publish a practical guidebook on the outdoor activities. The project is running jointly by Mountain Wilderness International and International Association for Mediterranean and Oriental Studies.

“The visitors, hikers and trekkers must respect mountains to keep its pristinely but unfortunately people do not respect mountains and leave garbage there,” said Pinelli adding that respect for nature and the shared enjoyment of mountains by everyone who loves them must be promoted.

He said that the mountains of Swat were very fascinating and beautiful where ecofriendly tourism must be promoted.

The three mountaineers Syed Ali Shah Mian, Muhammad Rahim and Farman Khan who recently summited the historical Mankiyal peak in the Upper Swat said they were excited to become the first Swatis by summiting the peak.” We are honoured to receive shields from the hands of Pinelli and we will try to summit the Falak Sar peak in our next expedition,” they said and thanked SPS Trekking Club for celebrating their success of summiting Mankiyal Peak.
