Eidul Fitr celebrated with traditional zeal

— Sharif, Alvi call on people to take care of the vulnerable

— Gen Bajwa spends Eid with troops stationed at LoC

ISLAMABAD: Eidul Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramazan, was celebrated across the country with solemnity and religious fervour.

The festival, celebrated sans Covid-19 curbs for the first time after two years, symbolises piety, patience, fortitude and socially reminds us to share the festivities with the poor, the orphans underprivileged, the downtrodden and neglected people.

The celebrations began as a large number of people gathered in mosques and open-air places across the country to kick off the festival with special congregational prayers in the morning which were followed by feasts and fun-filled activities.

In their addresses, the clergy highlighted the significance and philosophy of Eid. Special prayers were offered for the progress and prosperity of the country and the welfare of the Islamic world.

‘A DAY OF BLESSING’

People embraced their families, relatives and neighbours and wished them a happy and prosperous Eid. The main congregation in Islamabad was held at Faisal Mosque where President Dr Arif Alvi, civil servants and diplomats of Muslim nations offered Eid prayers.

Later, the president exchanged greetings with the people.

In his message, President Dr Arif Alvi, while greeting the nation on Eidul Fitr, said it was a day of giving, blessings, and forgiveness. The president prayed to Allah to make the day a source of joy and bliss.

SHARIF URGES TO TAKE CARE OF PEOPLE 

In Lahore, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz offered prayers at their Jati Umrah residence while Governor Omer Sarfraz Cheema did the same at Badshahi Mosque where he prayed for the progress and prosperity of the country.

The prime minister also exchanged Eid greetings with the people.

In his message on the occasion, Shehbaz extended greetings to the nation as well as Ummah on Eidul Fitr and urged the nation to show compassion and take special care of the people in need while celebrating the festival.

Addressing the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) workers after Eid prayers, Shehbaz vowed to resolve current economic challenges with the support of the people and members of the ruling coalition.

ARMY CHIEF VISITS LOC

Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa spent the day with troops in the Dungi town of Azad Kashmir along the Line of Control (LoC) and offered prayer with the troops.

Gen Bajwa and his wife visited the families of slain captains Muhammad Kashif and Muhammad Saad Bin Amin. There, the army chief paid rich tribute to the two and their families for their ultimate sacrifice in the service of the country, said an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release.

He said: “Remembering our heroes is a source of inspiration both for the Pakistan Army and the nation. The nation remains forever indebted to these valiant sons and their courageous families.”

KARACHI

In Sindh, the day dawned in Karachi with special prayers for the safety, security and prosperity of the country and for the unity of the Ummah.

The main congregation was held at Gulshan-i-Jinnah. Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah along with acting Governor Agha Siraj Durrani and former chief minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah offered Eid prayers in front of the Bhutto family mausoleum at Garhi Khuda Bakhsh.

KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where Eid was celebrated a day earlier on Monday, congregations were held in various parts of Malakand, Hazara and Dera Ismail Khan divisions.

Acting Governor Mushtaq Ahmed Ghani offered Eid prayer in Abbottabad. After the prayer, he interacted with the public and exchanged Eid greetings.

QUETTA

In Quetta, the main gathering was held on Tughi Road. More than 190 congregations were held across the Balochistan capital.

Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo congratulated the people of Balochistan on the occasion of Eid ul Fitr.

GILGIT-BALTISTAN

In Gilgit-Baltistan as well, Eid was celebrated with traditional zeal and fervour. Congregations were held in all Gilgit, Diamer, and Baltistan divisions where people offered prayers.

In Gilgit, the biggest Eid congregations were held in Imamia Eidgah on Quaid-e-Azam Road and Masjid Ahle Sunnah where thousands of people offered Eid prayers.

The Gilgit administration has made elaborate security arrangements and no untoward incident was reported.

AZAD KASHMIR

In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, special prayer congregations were held in all cities and towns where the people offered prayer.
