Aqib Javed slams PCB for adopting a ‘draw mentality’

Former pacer Aqib Javed Saturday slammed the “draw mentality” and said that spectators will stop coming to the stadiums if PCB management makes dead pitches just so they don’t lose in their backyard.

Earlier, it was reported that the PCB and Pakistan team management opted for a flat deck in the first Test match against Australia.

Pakistan batted for the majority of the first Test match in a rain-affected game which ended in a draw.

“Fear never lets you win and if we approach the games from the perspective that we don’t lose and continue to make dead pitches then spectators will stop watching us. You simply cannot win if you make decisions based on fear of failure. The captain needs to be brave and should not play for personal milestones,” Aqib said.

He further claimed that you cannot suddenly bring seam movement, bounce, or conventional swing in the National Stadium Karachi pitch. The only option left is to curate a pitch that favors the spinners.

“Australia only has one main spinner while we have two mature spinners; we should take advantage of that. If we are even scared of playing on turning wickets then that is something shocking,” Aqib concluded.
