Pollution falls in Lahore, Dubai ranked worst for air pollution

LAHORE: The air pollution engulfed the Middle East on Monday as the port city of Dubai topped the list of cities with the worst air quality followed by New Delhi.

Lahore plummeted to the third position after remaining on top for most of December.

The air pollution levels in Bahawalpur and Mirpur Khas touched new heights.

The air quality index (AQI) levels of Lahore remained 290 while its posh neighbourhoods including Gulberg, Mall Road, Jail Road and Model Town were also not devoid of dirty air.

In Garhi Shahu, the AQI level was recorded 430, in Defence 429, Kot Lakhpat 410, Mall Road 390, Gulberg 380, Anarkali 376, US consulate 372, and Model Town 370.

The health experts are urging people to use face masks to avoid smog-related diseases including throat, breathing, eyes and skin.

According to the metrological report, the weather will remain cloudy and there is a rain forecast for January 4-5. The temperature was recorded at 11 and humidity level was 80 percent.
