Dhol maestro Pappu Sain passes away

Legendary dhol player Pappu Sain passed away in Lahore Sunday following a prolonged illness.

Sain, who had been suffering from liver problems for over two years, was admitted to Shaikh Zayed Hospital in Lahore earlier this month after his health deteriorated.

His medical tests had revealed that 80 percent of his liver was damaged. Following this, the doctors had suggested a transplant as well as more tests.

However, they also cautioned if the condition of the liver worsens further, the procedure could not be performed as the infection was spreading fast, leading Sain’s family to seek financial help from the Punjab government.

The internationally renowned artiste was known for his power-packed performances at the tomb of Shah Jamal in Lahore’s Fazlia Colony neighbourhood and beyond.

He was buried in his ancestral village of Chak Jhumra per his wishes.

Sain leaves behind a son, Qalander Baksh, who continues his dhol-playing legacy at the shrine.
