Umer laid to rest at Karachi’s Abdullah Shah Ghazi graveyard

Legendary comedian Umer Sharif was laid to rest at Karachi’s Abdullah Shah Ghazi graveyard on Wednesday.

The funeral prayers of Umer were offered at a park in Karachi’s Clifton, which were attended by a large number of people, including politicians and artists.

People from all walks of life came to pay their last respects to the legendary comedian. Actors Rambo and Saud, and PSP Chairman Mustafa Kamal were in attendance as well.

A large number of people also visited Umer’s residence to offer their condolences.

Meanwhile, strict security arrangements were made on the occasion as law enforcement personnel were deployed to avoid any untoward situation.

Earlier, the body, which was draped in the Pakistani flag, was moved in a convoy for the funeral.

The body of legendary comedian was transported to the Sindh capital from Germany via a Turkish flag carrier.

Umer was born on April 19, 1955. He started his career as a stage performer using the name Umer Zarif but later renamed that to Umer Sharif. Two of his popular comedy stage plays were Bakra Qistoon Pe and Buddha Ghar Pe Ha.

Sharif received national awards for best director and best actor in 1992 for Mr. 420. He received ten Nigar Awards and remains the only actor to receive four Nigar Awards in a single year.

He was also a recipient of the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz for his contributions as a comedian, actor and producer in the entertainment industry.
