PML-N lawmaker joins PTI

LAHORE: Azhar Abbas, a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz lawmaker from PP-269 (Muzaffargarh-II), on Saturday announced to join the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf party.

He made the announcement during a meeting in his constituency.

In a statement, Abbas said he was elected on the PML-N ticket in the 2018 elections but has now decided to join the ruling party.

He said he enjoyed good relations with Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar and his family, who also hail from Muzaffargarh district, which is why he decided to quit PML-N.

In March last year, Abbas, leading a forward bloc of six PML-N lawmakers from his hometown, called on Buzdar at his office in Lahore to “express their confidence in the leadership of the chief minister and Prime Minister Imran Khan”.

While he snubbed the report suggesting he had decided to join PTI, Abbas admitted his talks were going on with several PML-N members who wanted to join the PTI.
