3.1 magnitude earthquake hits Karachi

KARACHI: On Saturday, a moderate earthquake shook Karachi, the capital of the Sindh province, National Seismic Monitoring Centre confirmed as no loss of life has been reported.

The earthquake registered at a magnitude of 3.1 on the Richter Scale, with its tremors witnessed in various parts of the metropolis.

It said that the epicentre of the earthquake was 72 kilometres from Karachi in the Northeast at the depth of 15 kilometres. However, there was no report of any loss of life or property.

The last time an earthquake jolted was in November 2020, when Pakistan’s National Seismic Monitoring Centre reported a 3.6 magnitude earthquake in the metropolis.

It was also a moderate-intensity quake measuring 3.6 at Richter Scale at 6:17 AM, according to the seismic monitoring centre.

The epicentre of the quake was 100 kilometres distance in Southeast of Karachi at the depth of 10 kilometres, the seismic monitoring centre said.
